The Reason Chick-Fil-A's Peach Milkshake Isn't Served All Year
If you're a big fan of Chick-fil-A milkshakes, then chances are you always really look forward to the peach milkshakes that really mark the summer season. However, you might wonder why the Georgia-based fast-casual chain doesn't serve a peach milkshake year-round — it is the peach state, after all. So when the juicy, sweet milkshake made its debut on June 29th this year, you were probably pretty excited to visit your local store and pick up your first one of the season (via Wide Open Eats). Ever since the milkshake first launched in 2006 for those few hot months of the year, it's been a stand-out menu item for tons of Chick-fil-A customers.
However, Chick-fil-A has a number of good reasons for withholding the peach milkshake from you for the rest of the year. And one of those reasons is definitely all about making you crave and want that seasonal item all the more. "We are very intentional about adding menu items that are available seasonally," says Ben Bolling from Chick-fil-A's Menu and Packaging Team (via The Chicken Wire). "We always want to keep our menu exciting and relevant for our guests." So the unavailability of it for most of the year just helps build up the anticipation of summer at Chick-fil-A.
It's also all about seasonality
While it certainly works to Chick-fil-A's benefit to have you counting down the days to peach milkshake season, building up interest to have you buy more of the sweet treat isn't the only reason the menu lacks it most of the year. The primary reason is really all about the seasonality of the ingredients.
The beloved chain only makes the milkshakes when the fruit is in peak season. "Our priority is serving the best menu item possible, and that means using real ingredients we can find, when they are in peak season," says Bolling. That's how Chick-fil-A gets all of that perfectly ripe peachy goodness packed into their milkshakes. Using great ingredients really makes a difference when it comes to taste, and no one wants to slurp a creamy drink with canned peaches. It just isn't the same.
So, be thankful for Chick-fil-A's call to only serve you the best they can, and look forward to the drink when it arrives every summer.
