This Is Exactly How To Make Ross' Moist Maker From Friends
Over the course of its 10-year run (via IMDb,) the popular sitcom Friends won itself a place worldwide as one of the most recognized and well-loved television programs. The cult show takes place in the 1990s and follows six friends through their 20s and 30s, with all the ups and downs that go with being young and single in New York City. The show is famous for the many catchphrases it has inspired, as well as some truly memorable foods provided mostly by character Monica Geller, who Buzzfeed states was a professional chef through most of the show's run.
One particularly memorable dish comes from the fifth season's ninth episode, titled succinctly "The One with Ross' sandwich," where character Ross Geller (Monica's brother) flips out after realizing a colleague not only ate the sandwich he brought to work for lunch, but also he didn't even finish it — and threw some of it in the trash. Insider explains that this was a huge slight to the Geller family, as the sandwich was the infamous Moist Maker, which Ross proclaims was "the only good thing going on" for him at that moment in time.
The Moist Maker is described by the show as the best Thanksgiving leftover sandwich ever made, thanks in part to a gravy-soaked slice of bread which Monica ingeniously tucks into the center.
The official Friends cookbook has released a sneak peak recipe
After countless unofficial recipes, cookbooks, and YouTube recreations, fans are finally getting the Geller family-approved way to make the beloved Moist Maker sandwich with the release of an official Friends cookbook. Written by Amanda Yee, Friends: The Official Cookbook is now available for pre-order on Amazon, who lists the publish date as September 22nd, 2020. The cookbook includes not only The Moist Maker recipe, but also Monica's Friendsgiving Feast, Rachael's Trifle, and Chandler's Milk You Can Chew. We'd recommend starting with expert Monica's dishes first before getting into the more, let's call them creative, foods the other friends came up with.
Luckily for Friends fans everywhere, you don't have to wait for Thanksgiving or even the September release date to make this possibly life-changing turkey sandwich, as Insider got their hands on the official recipe from the forthcoming book. To recreate the Moist Maker, Insider states that you will need three slices of sandwich bread, mayo, two leaves of romaine lettuce, gravy, roast turkey (either leftover or deli-sliced), cranberry sauce, cornbread stuffing, salt, and pepper. The only real prep work involved when making this sandwich is soaking one of the slices of bread in the gravy. Other than that, you just need to layer up the ingredients between your two dry slices of bread and enjoy! Just be sure to keep it away from any unworthy coworkers with hungry eyes and sticky fingers.
