This Strange New Doritos Flavor Has Everyone Talking
Doritos has had definitely had some weird flavors, but it's not every day that they bestow the world with a new taste treat. When the food geniuses behind the popular chip brand do emerge from their snack lab though, you can bet that the world stops for a second to listen. Well, chip fans, today is one of those days and Doritos has finally done it. They've infused their tortilla chips with one of the most powerful sodas mankind has ever known — Mountain Dew.
That's right, Doritos took Mountain Dew's slogan "Do the Dew" to heart and decided that it was about time for legitimate Mountain Dew-flavored Doritos have a place in this mixed-up world. What's next, Red Bull-flavored Cheetos?!
If these chips sound vaguely familiar, that's probably because they're actually a snack blast from the past. As Taste of Home has pointed out, Mountain Dew Doritos first came into existence in 2008 when the chip brand launched its Doritos Quest marketing campaign. Fans were tasked with guessing the mystery flavor which was, of course, Mountain Dew.
Getting your hands on Mountain Dew Doritos could be a challenge
Now for the bad news, it seems the people at PepsiCo — the overlords of both Doritos and Mountain Dew — decided that only the people of Australia were worthy of these chips. With any luck, they'll one day find their way back across the Pacific. One person on Instagram, however, said they tasted like "citrus lime detergent," so maybe we're not missing anything too special.
Either way, this seems like a pretty good reason to revisit the internet food sensation of 2014. Obviously, we're talking about Mountain Dew Doritos cupcakes. Making these cupcakes is actually pretty easy. According to BuzzFeed, you just need to mix in 1-1/4 cups of Mountain Dew with a box of lemon cake mix and a box of lemon Jell-O pudding mix. For the cream cheese frosting, just add more Mountain Dew with crushed up Nacho Cheese Doritos for a garnish.
You may not be able to have your Mountain Dew-flavored Doritos, but you can have your Mountain Dew Doritos cake and eat it, too.
