KFC's New Video Game Lets You Date A 'Suave Colonel Sanders'
In news you never thought you'd read today, KFC has developed a dating simulator that focuses on winning the heart of a sexy Colonel Sanders (via CNET). "I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin' Good Dating Simulator" is a real game, that will be available for free on Steam on September 24, and no, nobody really knows why — except that this is, perhaps, one of KFC's more innovative marketing efforts to date.
The company is indeed behind the development of the game and promises you, the gamer, quite the adventure as you traverse your way through culinary school while you're hot for some Colonel Sanders action. You'll be tasked with making decisions ("life-changing decisions") that will have "real" consequences, and you could affect the very real feelings of animated characters. This is a lot of responsibility, people, especially since you're trying to make your way through culinary school at the same time.
The game description asks, "Do you have what it takes to survive culinary school? Will Colonel Sanders choose you to be his business partner? Or maybe even so much more? Find out in the most finger lickin' good dating simulator ever created — a game that KFC actually made."
During game play, you can engage in cooking battles, enjoy secret recipes, graduate from a fictional culinary school, explore different herbs and spices, find out what the secret ending really is — and, of course, along the way you can date Colonel Sanders.
"The suave Colonel Sanders, in his signature all-white suit and folded-to-perfection bowtie, also joins the culinary school to embark on his journey of becoming the world's greatest fried chicken salesman, adding to your list of challenges," KFC told USA Today.
KFC is no stranger to cooky marketing gimmicks, such as employing a famous person to portray Colonel Sanders in TV commercials (most recently, Sean Astin), developing an inflatable KFC restaurant, or collaborating with snack makers for offerings like the Cheetos Sandwich. They've also recently made the news by rolling out plant-based chicken at one Atlanta KFC restaurant. However, this sexy anime version of the Colonel is definitely on its own level of uniquely weird, but who knows? It may be a really fun game, and will probably not coincidentally make you crave some fried chicken.
