Beyond Meat Revamped Its Sausage To Taste More Like Pork For BBQ Season
Beyond Meat is known for its plant-based products including burgers, steak, jerky, meatballs, and chicken nuggets. Now, the company is taking its Beyond Sausage product to the next level for this summer's barbecue season. Per a press release obtained by Mashed, the new version of the sausages — which come in flavors like Brat Original, Sweet Italian, and Hot Italian — have a "juicer and meatier taste and texture" and taste more like real pork than their predecessors. The sausages are also flavored with a new set of spices including onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika, and, of course, remain plant-based with main ingredients including peas and brown rice.
Vegconomist notes that the packaging of the new sausages is slightly different to note the new product and includes an orange rectangle with the words "Meatier Taste" in the upper left-hand corner of the packaging label. Sounds like it's time to fire up the grill!
The 411 on the new Beyond Sausage
As far as nutrition goes, according to the press release, the revamped Beyond Sausage contains 16 grams of protein and no cholesterol, GMOs, soy, or gluten. It also has 40% less saturated fat than some sausages made from real pork. "Our next-generation Beyond Sausage reflects our commitment to relentlessly innovate until our products are indistinguishable from animal meat in taste, texture, and flavor while being more nutritious and sustainable," Beyond Meat's chief innovation officer Dr. Dariush Ajami said in a statement.
Beyond Meat says the meatier new sausage will appeal to both flexitarians (aka people who don't identify as vegetarian but sometimes abstain from meat) and those who enjoy real meat, and Beyond Sausage fans are already hitting Twitter to share their excitement regarding the new product. "Wake up babe new Beyond Sausage just dropped," commented one user. Another chimed in, saying "Haven't seen any bad tasting product from Beyond Meat. Thank you so much."
You can find this newly released Beyond Sausage product at more than 15,000 grocers around the country, including Kroger and Whole Foods.
