The One State That Sadly Doesn't Have Any Dairy Queen Restaurants
Dairy Queen is without a doubt a very popular soft-serve ice cream and fast food destination in the United States. In fact, according to a survey conducted by YouGovAmerica, 98% of those asked said they had heard of Dairy Queen, while 75% said they enjoyed the restaurant's food and treats. Given this popularity, it's no surprise that there are thousands of locations in the U.S., 4,314, to be exact (via Dairy Queen). The number of Dairy Queens is especially notable in Texas, which boasts 584 locations. The state cab even claim its own Dairy Queen jingle: "DQ: That's What I Like About Texas."
Sadly, there are several U.S. territories that do not have Dairy Queens within their borders, including Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa. The District of Columbia also lacks a Dairy Queen, as does one New England state: Vermont (via ScrapeHero).
There are no blizzards in Vermont – at least not of the DQ variety, anyway
It may come as a surprise that Vermont doesn't have any Dairy Queens, given it is home to ice cream giant Ben & Jerry's and is famous for its classic maple creemees, a Vermont ice cream tradition consisting of a thick, maple-flavored soft serve. But it's not like Dairy Queens aren't wanted or have been avoided. Dairy Queens operated in Vermont in the past, and an effort was made in 2016 to expand to Vermont with a potential five franchises in the Burlington metro area and up to 20 around the state total (via Burlington Free Press). However, it seems as if the deal fell through or proved unsuccessful, as, alas, today there remain no Dairy Queens in Vermont.
Even with no Vermont locations, Dairy Queen hasn't forgotten about the state entirely. In 2015, Dairy Queen advertised its Free Cone Day on Facebook by sharing that it would serve free cones at the state capitol lawn in Montpelier. Fans took to the comments to share their excitement. "This is super awesome!!!" wrote user Jeanne Hite, while Lisa Wayman chimed in, "Thank [you] DQ we got ours it was delicious especially on a beautiful day."
