Why You Should Never Eat Taco Bell's Tortilla Chips In The Morning
A consistent product is at the forefront of any food craving. When you pull up to a drive-thru window and order your favorite meal, you're not looking for the undercooked version of it or the burnt bits at the bottom of the fryer. You're hoping to enjoy the product you know and love. This is why fans of Taco Bell's tortilla chips should steer clear of them during the restaurant's opening hours.
In "ask me anything" Reddit thread, a now-former Taco Bell manager revealed why the brand's chips are sometimes underwhelming. "Chips are fried every morning fresh, but we are able to keep chips for 24 hours after frying," they began. "So, you're probably getting old chips. [If you] come in the morning ... ask for fresh chips." To somewhat confirm the presumed ex-manager's report, another Reddit user called a Taco Bell store to find out where the chips come from. "They cook 'em up in house," they revealed.
So, it seems highly likely that if there are leftover chips from the day before you're more likely to get them in the morning before they start serving the freshly fried ones. But, Taco Bell tortilla chips aren't the only dish you should be avoiding. If you're a frequent flyer of the taco joint, there are certainly some other items you should be swerving.
Taco Bell's food is freshest during busy hours
In an attempt to gain knowledge from Taco Bell employees, one Reddit user asked "what items should we avoid ordering?" One presumed employee spoke out against the chili cheese burrito, citing issues with freshness similar to the tortilla chip debacle. "You're most likely going to get old chili that's not stirred or just an inconsistent burrito," they said, revealing that chili is made once a day, first thing in the morning. An employee on another thread advised against the guacamole "from a taste stand point."
As revealed to Reader's Digest by fast-food employees, its products are usually the freshest when the restaurant is at its busiest. For lunch, that means 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and, for dinner, it's 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. "More people are in the restaurant then, so we're cooking and serving new food constantly," said the unnamed employee. Because Taco Bell is a popular late-night stop, these stats might expand even further. Per PlaceIQ, the company is at its busiest from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
