But Costco offers a surprisingly large variety of fresh produce year-round and seasonal favorites that pop up throughout the year. One customer found a unique seasonal berry, called a kiwi berry, in the wholesaler's produce department. A kiwi berry looks like a teeny tiny kiwi without the fuzzy brown outer shell. They're sweet in flavor, with hints of pineapple and pear.
The kiwi berries found at Costco are the Munch'n variety, sold in a small (for Costco) sized box. Kiwi berries aren't genetically modified fruits — they are native to Southeast Asian countries. In the United States, you'll typically only see kiwi berries sold in September and October, as it's their peak growing season. However, the Munch'n berries are locally grown in New Zealand and are available in the spring instead. Also, since there is no outer skin, you don't need to peel them. Instead, you can pop them into your mouth like you would eat a kumquat. Thanks to TikTok user @heyjasmine_, many Costco lovers on social media were introduced to this fruit for the first time. Aside from being downright adorable, kiwi berries are also quite the nutritional powerhouse.

These tiny fruits are packed with more vitamin C than an orange and full of fiber. Kiwi berries also contain healthy amounts of vitamin E, magnesium, and potassium. Like other berries, a kiwi berry is ripe when it feels slightly squishy but mostly firm when squeezed. The growing and selling seasons for kiwi berries are so short that if you find them, they're likely ripe or close to being ripe when they're on the shelves.
