The Internet Is Raising A Ruckus Over The Bidens' Viral Meal Choice
Despite being some of the most powerful people on the planet, President Joe Biden and our First Lady Dr. Jill Biden are pretty down to earth. They might live in the White House, draft executive bills, and launch important initiatives, but they're also normal people. Biden once told Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show" that he and his wife "come from middle-class backgrounds" and because of that, they're not accustomed to being served hand and foot. He continued to say that although they have a staff of chefs in the White House who could do it for them, the Bidens tend to make their own breakfast.
And when they do eat out, they don't just dine in at high-profile Michelin-star restaurants with $100 entrees. The pair enjoyed a quaint date night at The Red Hen — a rustic American-Italian restaurant in Washington D.C. with affordable prices and great reviews to match. But like anything a presidential family does, the internet went into a frenzy when the restaurant's chef and co-owner Mike Friedman revealed the Bidens' orders to the Washingtonian.
The Bidens ordered the same entrée at The Red Hen
As it turns out, the internet doesn't care if the Bidens eat humbly. Instead, they're far more concerned with how the presidential couple ordered their meals during their date night. According to The Red Hen co-owner Mike Friedman, both Joe and Jill Biden ordered wine, bread and butter, chicory salad, and rigatoni with fennel sausage. Delicious, right? Well, the internet has different thoughts.
Apparently, ordering the same meal as your significant other on a date is a major dining faux pas. One person on Twitter said, "Secret to long-term compatibility? Order your own damn pasta rather than two to share?" Another person chimed in, "I would definitely glare at my husband if he ordered the same thing as me because obviously we need to try as much of the menu as possible!"
One of the Bidens' defenders and a Red Hen enthusiast on Twitter quipped, "The people criticizing the Bidens for ordering the same dish at the Red Hen have obviously never had their rigatoni with fennel sausage. I have had dreams about eating this again." One thing is for sure, those who are upset have clearly never sacrificed half of their pasta to an indecisive partner.
The Red Hen joined in on the fun by posting an Instagram photo of the infamous rigatoni with the caption, "To share, or not to share?" — a modern Shakespearean debate.
