What In The World Is A Rat Snack?
We all know that TikTok food trends can sometimes raise some eyebrows. Sure, there's the TikTok baked feta recipe and whipped coffee, but for every cloud bread recipe, there's a Flamin' Hot Cheetos macaroni and cheese or cotton candy and pickles. It's easy to get lost in #FoodTok and the platform has definitely spawned some unbelievable TikTok food trends we could probably do without.
Remember "healthy coke?" The viral trend inspired social media users to combine balsamic vinegar and carbonated water in an effort to cut out the 39 grams of sugar in a 12-ounce can of Coca-Cola, but who wants to drink carbonated salad dressing? And we won't even approach "sleepy chicken," a hoax-like combination of raw chicken cooked in NyQuil that the FDA declared "unsafe."
On a more appetizing note, TikTok has revealed many different snacking habits that would otherwise stay hidden in the privacy of our own kitchens. It's nice to know that we're not alone in our penchant for eating literally whatever calls out to us, even if it's slightly unexpected. Cue the rat snack.
A rat snack is whatever you're hungry for
A rat snack is meant to be quick and dirty, made with whatever you have on hand that calls to you like a rat scrabbling around for anything it can get its paws on. It might be dipping Doritos in cream cheese at 3 a.m. or wrapping ham and cheese inside a tortilla around a dill pickle spear. No need for plates or cutlery — fingers and paper towels reign supreme.
One TikToker opts for a melted, crispy slice of provolone wrapped around a dill spear as a rat snack. Another TikTok user loves apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter on bread with a processed cheese slice delicately draped on top. It's the kind of snack that may earn you confused looks from your spouse or roommate. It's what comes together when you're hungry, but you don't want to cook or don't know what you want to eat. The best part is that the rat snack is judgment free: The trend is all about embracing our cravings for delicious flavor without shame.

It's nice to see others have the same oddball snacking habits. Even if that person is a health food influencer they, too, stand in front of the refrigerator squirting Cheez-Whiz on apple slices in their pajamas when late-night hunger strikes.
