Bobby Flay's Signature Blue Corn Chip Burger Is Causing Beef With His Cat

You may not expect Bobby Flay to be a cat guy, but believe us when we say: He very much is. Being an only child, the celeb chef explained to CBS News that the five cats he had growing up were "as close to my brothers as I had." Now that he's older, the Food Network star has graduated from being a cat brother to a full-fledged "Cat Daddy," as he proudly proclaims in his Twitter bio.

Currently, Flay is the "father" of two Maine Coon kitties: Stella and Nacho Flay, whom he told People Magazine he has a "very special relationship" with (via Wide Open Eats). "I am in this crazy business. I feel like my cats help take the edge off me," he said, noting that his feline friends also "create a soothing environment" at home. Flay and Nacho have even gone into business together, launching a specialty cat food brand called Made by Nacho back in 2021.

Needless to say, Flay loves his cats very much – so much so, in fact, that he admitted in an interview with Be Chewy last October that he's turned down plans with friends in the past to stay home and hang out with his cats. However, after taking a subtle swipe at Nacho in an Instagram post in January, he might not find himself welcome at the kitty club any time soon.

Bobby and Nacho Flay got into a little cat fight on Instagram

In an interview with Be Chewy, Bobby Flay described his cat, Nacho, as an "alpha" kitty who "always wants to be involved" – though the chef made sure to point out that the feline had no involvement in naming one of the signature dishes at his burger chain, Bobby's Burgers. On his Instagram page, the Food Network star brought his claws out a little bit as he put the spotlight on one of his favorite menu items at the eatery: The Nacho Burger. "@nachoflay will say it was named after him but this one brings all of your favorite flavors from a plate of nachos to the top of a perfectly cooked burger," he assured.

According to the Bobby's Burger's website, the Nacho Burger comes topped with queso, pickled jalapenos, tomato chipotle salsa, and blue corn tortilla chips. That description certainly sounds similar to that of a plate of nachos, yet the chef's Maine Coon kitty wants fans to think otherwise. "Um it WAS named after me," Nacho commented from his own Instagram account.

A few other Instagrammers supported the feline's claim, including user @hummingbirdquailsanctuary. "Love Nacho and Nacho's nacho burger too! We all know he was the inspiration," they wrote. Flay, meanwhile, has not issued a response to Nacho's comment. However, an Instagram post on January 30 saw the two enjoying a "catnip sesh," seemingly indicating an end to their feud.
