Chipotle Dropped How To Make The Honey Vinaigrette At Home
If you frequent Chipotle restaurants, you might have noticed that people ask for two or more of the honey vinaigrette that usually comes with the chain's salads. An employee once confirmed to Insider that customers can order the salad dressing on the side of any order, so it doesn't matter what people are ordering.
According to a Redditor who is allegedly an employee at Chipotle, people started ordering more of the honey vinaigrette than the restaurant could manage to whip up quickly, so the restaurant purportedly started charging around 30 cents for extra dressing. The fans weren't having it. "Multiple people threatened to call corporate and report us. Multiple people threw tantrums in the lobby. And multiple people would turn around without saying a word and leave without the food they were ordering," the Redditor wrote.
If you didn't realize it before, by now you know that Chipotle's honey vinaigrette has a cult following of its own. Recipes abound for copycat Chipotle honey vinaigrette dressing, but when you hear it straight from the horse's mouth, you drop everything and take notes. In December 2022, the restaurant promised to help The Farmlink Project donate 10 million pounds of produce to food banks. The goal was to donate 20 million pounds by January 31, 2023, and promised to let food influencer Nick DiGiovanni release the restaurant's honey vinaigrette recipe if the milestone was met. Chipotle hit that goal, and DiGiovanni released the recipe online (via TikTok). So did Chipotle.
Chipotle revealed its honey vinaigrette recipe
It's not like the netizens hadn't already figured it out, but when Chipotle released its honey vinaigrette recipe on Twitter, the netizens were stoked. The ingredients include ½ cup of neutral oil, ¼ cup of red wine vinegar, 2.5 teaspoons of honey (Chipotle uses Wildflower honey), 3 tablespoons of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, ¼ teaspoon dried oregano, ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper, ½ tablespoon of salt, and finally, 4 tablespoon of water.
Ingredients:
Oil, Neutral Flavored – ½ Cup
Red Wine Vinegar – ¼ Cup
Honey – 2.5 Tbsp
Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce – 3 Tbsp
Dried Oregano – ¼ Tsp
Ground Black Pepper – ½ Tsp
Salt – ½ Tbsp
Water – 4 Tbsp— Chipotle (@ChipotleTweets) January 28, 2023
All ingredients except oil, black pepper, and oregano must be blended for 20 seconds on high speed, and as they combine, slowly add the oil and emulsify the mixture. Add black pepper and oregano at the end. The best part about making the recipe at home is that you can customize it to your liking by adjusting the amount of vinegar, salt, pepper, and honey.
Directions:
- Combine all the ingredients into a blender except oil, black pepper, and oregano.
- Blend the ingredients for 20 seconds on high speed. While blending, add the oil in a slow and steady stream to form an emulsion.— Chipotle (@ChipotleTweets) January 28, 2023
- Once emulsified and thick, add the black pepper and oregano.
- Taste and adjust as needed with salt, vinegar, honey, or Chipotle pepper purée.
- Place in an airtight container and store in the fridge. Lasts five days refrigerated.— Chipotle (@ChipotleTweets) January 28, 2023
"This stuff absolutely slaps!!! Thanks for giving us the actual recipe!" one user replied to Chipotle's tweet. "@ChipotleTweets just made my night with this tweet. Never have I ever screenshoted something so quick. Next you must share the magic of your forks!" another fan wrote.
