The Unlikely Ingredient Wolfgang Puck Uses For French Toast

Wolfgang Puck is not only one of the most famous chefs alive, but a personality with more than 580k followers on TikTok, a growing audience in love with his delicious recipes. Just scrolling through the Puck's feed, you can learn the basics to prepare a frittata, a bolognese, a butternut squash soup, meatballs, and the process of croissant making. And for brunch lovers out there, Puck seems to not miss the opportunity of showing how to enhance your favorite morning treat.

In a recent video, Puck explains how to prepare french toast using challah bread and a griddle. The video starts like a classic french toast recipe. He has a bowl with milk, eggs, sugar, and spices mixed, where he soaks the slices of bread. But, before putting the toast on the grill with butter and oil, he includes an additional surprising ingredient that gives a crunchy touch to the bread.

The secret ingredient

After dipping the bread into liquid, Puck presses it into a bowl of chopped almonds. Because the bread is wet and moist, the almonds stick to the surface. "Never thought to make it with nuts!" one user commented. The almonds add extra flavor and crunch to the recipe, which is the perfect contrast to the berry compote and the creamy creme fraiche that Puck tops the french toast with. Of course, he suggests that you can serve the french toast as you like, with maple syrup, butter, or just powdered sugar. And he notes that nut allergy people should definitely avoid the almond step.

It's not the first time Pucks has been creative with French toast. According to the Detroit Free Press, he suggests stuffing the bread slices, challah, or your loaf of preference, with mascarpone and jam, before continuing with the classic process: Soak the bread and cook it with a lot of butter, until the bread looks golden brown. Either with this recipe or with the almond coating one, you will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth at brunch. "A feast for the eyes but it's also so delicious," Puck said to finish the video, and we couldn't agree more.
