Twitter Is Shedding Tears Over Wendy's Peppermint Frosty Farewell
You may be familiar with the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The phrase is applicable to a number of situations, including food. For example, if you've got a recipe that always tends to please a crowd, there's no reason to go about serving anything else. Likewise, restaurants may want to steer clear of changing or discontinuing fan-favorite menu items so as not to disappoint loyal customers, which is what happened when Taco Bell ditched its beloved Mexican Pizza back in 2020. (Uproar was so great, it's since been reinstated.)
Wendy's has put itself in the position of making the same mistake as well, most recently with its beloved Frosty treat. Ahead of the 2022 holiday season, the chain announced it would be temporarily replacing its vanilla Frosty with its first-ever holiday-inspired flavor: peppermint, which CNN reports was just the third Frosty flavor variation in 16 years.
Many Wendy's fanatics were anxious to give the treat a try after news of the festive Frosty leaked on Reddit. But after the tragedy that was the strawberry Frosty — which some Wendy's customers said was reminiscent of Pepto-Bismol — some just wanted to see the vanilla Frosty back alongside the chain's signature chocolate dessert. However, despite being just as pink as the fruity treat, the peppermint Frosty won over a significant portion of Wendy's customers, many of whom are now unhappy about having to bid the festive dessert farewell.
Will we ever see the peppermint Frosty return to Wendy's?
There didn't seem to be many flaws with Wendy's peppermint Frosty, which one Redditor said was not only "incredible" but also "the perfect flavor." However, being that it was introduced as a limited-edition holiday flavor, and the 2022 holiday season has come to an end, the festive dessert's stint at the chain, unfortunately, has to come to an end. The fast food eatery addressed the discontinuation in a tweet on January 18 that contained a graphic featuring a photo of the minty pink treat and the words "YOU DIED" written in red across the top. "It souled out," the chain teased.
In response, several people used their 280 characters to mourn the loss of the beloved treat. A number of replies contained cries of "NOOO," while one Twitter user declared the chain "crazy for killing" the seasonal flavor. "Why do you guys constantly get rid of the [g]ood stuff," another person asked, while yet another passionate fan argued that founder Dave Thomas "would not approve" of the decision to discontinue the frozen treat. "Sad, managed to get one it just once," Twitter user @RaidoFive wrote. "Worth a place on the permanent lineup, tbh."
Since mint is often associated with the holidays, it doesn't seem likely that the Frosty will ever stick around for good — though that's not to say we won't see it again. In response to one Twitterer's call for its return, Wendys wrote, "Maybe one of these days."
