How Chick-Fil-A Actually Honors Local Heroes With A Year's Free Food
It's probably a given that food is popular in America — we'd all be pretty screwed if we never ate anything, wouldn't we? But what is surprising is exactly how much food is adored. According to Newsweek, the majority of U.S. residents would do anything in return for unlimited supplies of their favorite food, including facing up to their deepest fears. They further report that 52% claim to love food more than anything, which could create a whole new market for dating apps.
Giving away free food is a common tactic used by restaurants. It's useful to keep getting customers through the door, differing from a mere price reduction because patrons don't have to consider the cost at all, explains Gourmet Marketing. Typically, promotions involve a complimentary side dish or receiving two meals for the price of one.
Chick-fil-A once offered a year's worth of food each time a new store opened. Per the brand's website, the First 100 promotion appropriately extended to the first 100 people in line, which led to overnight campouts with plenty of excited fans. Unfortunately, this event was one of the many that were changed by the COVID-19 pandemic (per Fox Business). The brand didn't give up, however, as it found another way to honor fans with freebies.
Chick-fil-A honors heroes with free meals
Instead of rewarding fans who've lined up for the grand opening, Chick-fil-A has shifted its focus to 100 hometown heroes in each area. According to the brand's website, this promotion includes "[those] who are making an impact in our local communities." It's not quite clear how the selections are made; but, as a way to increase the excitement, winners are publically announced on the company's Facebook page.
In December of 2022, Chick-fil-A representatives, along with the brand's beloved cow mascot, informed the winners with a personal appearance after the opening of a Bowling Green, Kentucky location (per Facebook). Those named included individuals from Hosparus Health, Hope House, and Center for Courageous Kids. Per the Krazy Coupon Lady, chosen heroes receive a free Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich meal once per week for one year. Such a meal comes with a sandwich, a side item, and a drink.
