How Martha Stewart Keeps Her Salmon Deliciously Succulent Every Time
Americans consume approximately 450,000 tons of salmon each year, according to National Geographic. Just for reference, that's about 900 million pounds of fish that hits our plates across the states. Salmon is one of those staple dishes that are on almost every restaurant menu and can be cooked in a plethora of ways: pan-fried, roasted, broiled, grilled, and pan-seared — we could go on for hours. With all of these cooking methods available, how do you know which is the best option?
Well, Martha Stewart may have the answer. The culinary icon is known for her one-pan-pasta, perfect macaroni and cheese, and that Slow-Baked Citrus Salmon with carrots recipe we are alluding to. Understanding how to cook the perfect salmon is a difficult feat, especially when it's easy to overcook the fish. Bon Appétit recommends using a fork to see if the flesh of the salmon is flaking easily, and if so, it's ready to be taken out of the heat. Martha Stewart has a slightly different idea, though.
Use a low oven temperature
Martha Stewart often takes to Instagram to share her recipes and some pro chef tips. In an Instagram post, the cookbook author explained that her salmon is described as a slow cook recipe, but that shouldn't deter you from making it. In fact, the entrée "only takes 10 minutes of prep and 40 minutes total." So what's Stewart's pro tip? Kitchn pointed out that using a low oven temperature will result in a "juicy, evenly cooked fish."
Her Slow-Baked Citrus Salmon with Carrots consists of some fun seasonings, including maple syrup, cumin, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper for the carrots. The salmon is a bit less involved, as it's tossed in olive oil and orange slices beside the carrots. Stewart advises that you preheat the oven to 300 degrees F for the entire dish and place the salmon on the pan skin-side down. Food & Wine explains that if you cook the fish filet on high heat it can cause it to dry out. Now that you know exactly how to bake the most delicious salmon, you are ready to meal prep for the week.
