The Italian Dish David Beckham Always Cooks For Himself, According To Brooklyn
What comes to mind when you think of David Beckham? Him kicking a ball or "Bend It Like Beckham"? The fact that he married a Spice Girl? Perhaps it's his tattoos and all those underwear ads. How about cooking?
While it's easy to assume that celebrities have their own personal chefs to do all the cooking for them, some do prepare their own meals. According to Business Standard, the former footballer attended culinary school for six months in Italy, where he learned to cook ragu and fresh pasta. Needless to say, those culinary courses paid off. In fact, the topic of his cooking came up during an episode of "The Late Late Show with James Corden" that featured his son, Brooklyn.
When Beckham's eldest son appeared on the show, Brooklyn confirmed his dad's kitchen skills and mentioned that one dish, in particular, was his dad's favorite to cook. This was the one dish he had his heart set on perfecting during his culinary training in Italy, and it is a dish that Brooklyn claims he loves to cook himself.
Beckham made the dish during a cookoff with Gordon Ramsay
David Beckham passed his love for cooking down to his son, which later led to Brooklyn's Instagram cooking videos and even his own online cooking series. His cooking interests were the focus of his appearance on James Corden's show when they cooked steak frites and mushy peas together. When asked about the main thing his father cooks "when he doesn't have his own private chef around," Brooklyn explained it was risotto and that his Dad loves to cook it.
In fact, the father-and-son duo often cook the rice dish together. Brooklyn shared a video of them preparing a creamy mushroom risotto on his Instagram page in 2021. In 2017, Beckham even had a risotto cook-off with Gordon Ramsay with Laila Ali as the judge. Beckham described the recipe during the competition as a savory risotto with mushrooms and asparagus.
Ramsey ended up winning the competition, but another version of Beckham's risotto — which he allegedly shared on Twitter — still inspired others like Anna Francesca of my primrose hill kitchen to recreate it. The ingredients? Risotto rice, onions, butter, white wine, beef stock, sage leaves, saffron, garlic cloves, parmesan cheese, parsley, and lemon zest.
