The Aldi Instant Coffee That's Being Compared To Dirt

The coffee market is as hot as ever. According to the British Coffee Association, an estimated two billion cups of coffee are consumed daily, making it the world's most popular drink. Whether it's to add some pep in your step after a night out or jumpstart your day, the classic drink is in high demand. As a result, everyone is jumping into the coffee game, from fast food chains like McDonald's coffee to celebrities like Jadakiss launching a coffee business. Even grocery stores are getting in on the action, including the beloved discount store Aldi. However, fans have not taken to their store brand coffee the way they have other offerings.

For instance, fans of Aldi voiced their disdain for their store-brand coffee. The crux of their ire is centered on its taste. A consumer on Reddit was curious how the store's cup of Joe compares to the famous brand Nescafé and users did not hold back — comparing its taste to an unexpected substance.

A no on Morning Joe?

Fans of Aldi on Reddit have not taken kindly to the store's house coffee labeling its taste akin to that of dirt. A user lamented, "Haven't tried the Nescafé, but it was worse than Folgers. Tastes more like dirt than coffee."

Another user rated the coffee, stating, "2/10." One user went into more detail, saying, "1/10 [it's] garbage coffee." "Well, it's instant coffee... so," stated a user whose expectations for instant coffee are already low.

Some responses took a more nuanced approach. "I do not like it, but I'd drink it over Nescafé," said one user. While another confessed, "I do keep it to use in a pinch. It's fine for that." Some have even found alternative uses for it, given its potent flavor. This is best summed up by a user's comment stating, "I've used it for baking more than drinking. I add it to brownies and cakes to intensify the chocolate flavor and/or add notes of coffee." With such varied preferences when it comes to coffee, this may be one to taste and judge for yourself.
