Why Reddit Is Losing It Over A Local Taco Bell's Menu
Without a doubt, the ongoing food inflation crisis has been concerning for many Americans. Between September 2021 and September 2022, staple grocery items like eggs have increased in price from $1.84 to $2.90, milk has increased from $3.59 to $4.18, and chicken has increased from $1.50 to $1.89, per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
And that's just groceries. According to QSR Magazine, most restaurants have increased their prices — on average — by about 8%. Some restaurants saw an increase of as high as 13%. Needless to say, this puts strain on customers who may not be willing to pay a higher price for the same McDonald's Big Mac they enjoyed for a couple of bucks just months earlier.
However, despite the very serious nature of the food inflation crisis, a few Reddit users were recently able to make light of the situation when a local Taco Bell menu malfunctioned. Their responses are everything we need to brighten up our day, and also leave us with a few things to think about moving forward.
Shoutout to Taco Bell Reddit for giving us a good laugh
A member of the Taco Bell Reddit page gave the internet a good laugh when they shared a photo of the menu board at their local Taco Bell. According to their humorous caption, "Inflation is so bad, my local TB no longer lists prices." Not a single dollar amount can be found on the menu, though the two coffee options are lucky enough to be listed as costing $X.XX. Hopefully we aren't meant to interpret that as Roman numerals.
As you might expect, other Reddit users had their own jokes to lighten the mood. One person commented that the prices were unlisted "for fear that [Taco Bell] customers would combust instantaneously." Others said, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." Ouch. Another person channeled their inner SpongeBob and wrote, "I gUesS iT's FrEe tHeN."
One person pointed out that the lack of prices on the menu just means that Taco Bell is fine dining. This led another person to comment, "It's like lobster or king crab on a menu, it just says 'market price.'
Others joked about how the price of the Taco Bell wild cherry freeze fluctuates with the market. Someone else suggested that "bartering is coming back," so maybe bring something worth a crunchy taco the next time you pay Taco Bell a visit.
