Zesty Cocktail Sauce Recipe
Shrimp cocktail has been a popular appetizer recipe for dinner parties and celebrations since the 70s. It's a quick and easy, but remarkably delicious component to an hors d'oeuvres spread. Even though this recipe dates back decades, we cannot get enough of this go-to appetizer. This is probably because the cocktail saucesauce provides such a uniquely addicting, zesty flavor.
Recipe developer Susan Olayinka brings us this recipe for a zesty cocktail sauce. "This cocktail sauce is good for any occasion," Olayinka raves. "Whether you're having a fancy dinner or just want a delicious dipping sauce for your weeknight shrimp, this recipe will hit the spot."
While you may be tempted to buy store bought cocktail sauce, we'd like to point out how simple this recipe is to throw together. Olayinka notes, "I think the best part about this recipe is how simple it is to make! You can have this delicious cocktail sauce on the table in just a few minutes, and it goes great with shrimp or other seafood."
Gather your ingredients for zesty shrimp cocktail
To make this zesty cocktail sauce recipe, you can start by gathering your ingredients. For this recipe, you will need ketchup, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce.
Add all ingredients to a small bowl and stir
This simple recipe comes together in a flash. Add all of these ingredients to a small bowl and stir. Olayinka notes, "If you want a smooth cocktail sauce, make sure to whisk the ingredients together until they are completely combined. You can also use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until it is smooth."
Serve with shrimp or other seafood
Whatever method you choose, once you combine the ingredients you will have yourself a cocktail sauce ready to be served. Olayinka suggests, "This cocktail sauce would be great with any seafood dish, or you could use it as a dip for veggies or chips." While we don't typically eat veggies with cocktail sauce, we aren't opposed to the suggestion. After all, if this combination helps us eat more veggies, that would be a plus. If you are going to serve it with shrimp, make sure you know how to best cook it.
Ingredient variations
Now, if you want to get creative with this recipe, Olayinka gives us advice on how to switch it up. "There are a few ways you can make this recipe your own," Olayinka says. "Try adding different herbs or spices to the sauce, or using a different type of ketchup. You could also swap out the lemon juice for lime juice or vinegar. Get creative and make it your own!"
