Why Netflix Chose Pizza As The Focus For This Season Of Chef's Table
By REE WINTER
Netflix’s latest season of “Chef’s Table” focuses entirely on pizza — from its rich history to its widespread popularity today. Originating in the 1700s as a cheap meal sold to impoverished people by street vendors in Naples, pizza was later introduced to the U.S. by Italian immigrants.
"Chef's Table: Pizza" follows culinary icons from around the world who Netflix says are "redefining gourmet food with innovative dishes and tantalizing desserts." Each episode focuses on one chef who has taken pizza to a whole new level, not only in America but in other countries too.
The pizza experts include Italian chef Gabrielle Bonci — who’s pizza was beloved by the legendary Anthony Bourdain — U.S.-based Korean immigrant Anna Kim, and Japanese chef Yoshihiro Imai. Each of the six episodes of "Chef's Table: Pizza" give new appreciation for this humble meal.
