Why Baseball Card Packs No Longer Include Sticks Of Bubble Gum

In the mid-to-late 20th century, baseball cards had a slab of bubblegum, but by the early ’90s, this was no longer the case. This is due to several reasons.
By the '90s, baseball cards were well-established as a potentially valuable collectible purchased by grownups, not just something for kids to swap.
Baseball collectors were complaining about stains left on the cards that came in contact with the gum. In 1991, Topps was the last company to stop including the chewy treat.
Topps spokesman Timm Boyle told the Chicago Tribune it was a "difficult decision." He reminisced, "The gum was one of the reasons you would buy the cards in the first place."
