What Makes Premier Protein So Concerning
By MEGAN SCOTT

Premier Protein’s chocolate protein shake has over 55,000 ratings on Amazon (90 percent of which are four and five stars), while their Vanilla Whey Protein Powder has over 9,000 reviews, the majority of which are five stars. However, you should never buy food or drink without examining the ingredients.

What do Premier Protein shakes contain that makes them taste good enough to build a following? According to Piper Gibson, the holistic health and nutrition expert behind Regenerating Health, the shakes use Acesulfame Potassium or "Ace K," a sugar substitute that can increase your risk for brain damage.

Ace K is FDA-approved, but consuming too much can put you at risk for migraines, seizures, infections, abnormal neural development, certain endocrine disorders, neuropsychiatric disorders, and may even contribute to learning disorders in children. A lot of consumers obviously enjoy Premier Protein, but you have better options.

If you're at a loss for where to source your extra grams of muscle-building, cell-regenerating protein, look to natural and unprocessed foods that make for great post-workout restoratives. Eggs, oats, broccoli, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, and a host of other natural foods are all good sources of protein.
