What Exactly Is Ranch?

Ranch is a beloved condiment, and creating a batch doesn’t take much. A traditional ranch dressing recipe features a handful of simple ingredients.
Typically, ranch is a combination of buttermilk, mayonnaise, salt, vinegar, herbs like dill and parsley, spices like pepper and paprika, and garlic, chives, and onion.
In 1954, Steve Henson created a buttermilk-based salad dressing on his farm in Santa Barbara, California, which later became known as Hidden Valley Ranch.
The dressing became so popular that people traveled far and wide to stock up on ranch packets, and it has remained a staple in American cuisine.
