We Finally Know Why Taco Bell's Tostadas Disappeared
By JENNIFER MASHUGA
Taco Bell has been a master at mixing up its menu. Taco Bell decided to streamline its menu when the pandemic hit, and tostadas vanished from it, leaving customers upset.
The tostada, a crunchy flat tortilla topped with ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, was one of Taco Bell’s original items when the menu was first created in 1962.
During the pandemic, Taco Bell was looking for a way to be efficient and make money, and the best way to do that was to remove items. By the end of 2020, they removed 13 items.
Many customers were not happy with the discontinuation of many of their favorite items. With enough uproar, they did bring back the Mexican Pizza, but not the Tostada.
In 2022, Taco Bell introduced the Cheez-It Tostada, but it was only in one location and sold out within a week. So far, the chain has no plans to re-introduce tostadas to the menu.
