Is Cracker Barrel Really Closing Forever?
By BOSHIKA GUPTA and FELIX BEHR
Established in 1969, country cooking chain Cracker Barrel has become wildly popular with leagues of loyal customers. Naturally, these fans went into uproar when an online ad from 2021 that claimed that Cracker Barrel was closing for good, and now the rumor is making rounds again — here’s what's really happening with the chain.
The ad that started it all appeared on the Outbrain advertising network, with a headline reading “Saying Goodbye: Stores Closing in 2021 Across The Nation.” However, in a classic case of clickbait, the link attached to the ad led to a 35-page slideshow with no mention of Cracker Barrel in sight, proving its own rumor false.
Cracker Barrel's revenue has suffered from the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic starting in 2020, and its financial situation became more troublesome in 2021. However, the restaurant's dining rooms did open back up that year, and the chain and its huge portions of biscuits and gravy are clearly here to stay.
