Ingredients
  • 2 cups Corn Chex
  • 2 cups Rice Chex
  • 1 cup Wheat Chex
  • 1 cup roasted and lightly salted peanuts
  • 4 ounces (1/2 bag) rye chips or bagel chips
  • 1 cup pretzels
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine the three types of Chex cereal, peanuts, rye chips/bagel chips, and pretzels in a large bowl.
  2. Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then repeat. Use a lower power on your microwave to avoid the butter popping and making a mess.
  3. Add the granulated garlic, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and kosher salt to the melted butter. Whisk to combine. If using the optional spicy ingredients, add those as well.
  4. Pour the butter mixture over the cereal mix. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the butter mixture into the cereal mixture. You will need to mix for at least 1 minute to get the butter and seasoning evenly distributed.
  5. Spread on a large rimmed baking sheet in an even layer. Use more than one sheet, if needed.
  6. Place in the oven at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Stir, bringing the bits on the bottom to the top, and spread evenly. Repeat this process two more times, for a total cooking time of 1 hour.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow the mixture to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes.
  8. Lay out paper towels on a table or counter. Evenly spread the mix on the paper towels to finish cooling for at least 1 hour before packaging.
  9. Place your Chex Mix in a zip-top bag, mason jar, plastic container, or another air-tight container. Mix will keep for up to 2 months.
