Ina Garten And Melissa McCarthy Are Partnering Up For A Cocktail Party On Discovery+

It's official: we're in heaven. Remember that time when Ina Garten did daytime drinking with Seth Meyers and failed to get (adequately) drunk (via YouYube)? And then, the next time she and Seth met, (albeit virtually), during the same episode in which she decried the sourdough bread trend that we once were all so obsessed over, she demanded a redo? Now Garten's got a chance at a sort of redemption in the form of a virtual cocktail party with the Emmy Award-winning Melissa McCarthy.

What, now? Two of our favorite celebrities drinking plus-sized cocktails and gossiping? We were excited about Bobby and Giada in Italy, but this discovery+ special, Cocktails and Tall Tales with Ina Garten and Melissa McCarthy may just make 2021 worth existing in. We exaggerate only a little. In a statement that discovery+ shared with Mashed, Garten was quoted as commenting, "When the opportunity to meet and maybe have a drink with Melissa was presented, I immediately cleared my schedule." Uh, yeah. If Melissa McCarthy wanted to explore the art of cocktail making with us, we'd clear our year for the occasion. McCarthy called the opportunity to meet Ina Garten "a wonderful fever dream." We can't say we blame her. (When was the last time you took time out of your day to watch Garten make her giant quarantine cosmopolitan?) "I'm so excited and nervous that I'm planning out questions but I don't want to seem like I'm planning out questions," McCarthy added in an Instagram announcement.

Everything we know about Cocktails and Tall Tales

For starters, Ina Garten and Melissa McCarthy's cocktail "gabfest" (as McCarthy put it) is going to turn into a double date of sorts, which means we'll get a sense of who Jeffrey Garten and Ben Falcone are. Secondly, during the discovery+ special, we'll watch McCarthy and Garten "explore a new cocktail concoction." Which is fine, absolutely fine, absolutely, completely, unconditionally fine with us. Thirdly, we might be seeing more of the pair in the future. Food Network's president, Courtney White, suggested as much in a statement. "Though current times wouldn't allow for these two icons to meet face-to-face, the conversation, quick wit and, of course, oversized cocktails will absolutely hold us all over until we can get these two into a kitchen together," she said.

What are Garten and McCarthy likely to chat about? Both are already fielding questions on their Instagram accounts and will also invite certain fans to have a virtual, one-on-one conversation during the special. Garten's followers want the celebrity chef to ask McCarthy "if they got to eat all the food they were making on Gilmore Girls" and whether or not McCarthy would let Garten cameo in one of her films. (YES, PLEASE.) McCarthy's followers, on the other hand, want to know if Garten "ever gets stressed" and what the comfort food queen cooks at 3 a.m. Needless to say, we'll be staying tuned.
